Networking as a lifelong investment

IMG_0263 (2)Remember the old saying ‘it’s not what you know, but who you know”?  For someone who started his career so obsessed with getting things done that he rarely left his workplace, my ‘networking learning curve’ has been rather steep.  Today, thanks to some serendipitous mentoring and the need to secure clients for a fledgling consulting business, I value my network ahead of most other things in life.  That value comes in a range of ways.  The obvious ones include meeting new clients and new team members – both of which help to pay the bills.  The less obvious ones include encountering new ways of thinking, discovering new possibilities, meeting new mentors, making lifelong friends and generating great memories – all of which add some extra spark to life.

Interestingly, many of Sustainable Consulting’s proudest achievements to date have both arisen from, and contributed to, our extensive and diverse network.  And with the rise of social media, the power of that network has become even more evident.  A quick scan of LinkedIn reveals that many former colleagues, clients and other associates have risen to senior ranks in a range of organisations operating in a range of sectors.  This creates a tremendous opportunity to leverage our network’s collective knowledge, experience and relationships to help make the world a better place.  The photo at the top of this page shows the newly-formed C-Wise Board – something made possible by linking a selection of the most talented people in our network.

As part of our commitment to unlocking human potential, we have commenced regular networking opportunities to help connect the many passionate and talented people in our network.  This video provides a quick overview of our first networking event held in early April 2014.
