How we work
At Sustainable Consulting we work differently to most other organisations. We deliberately avoid the 'nine-to-five', five-days-per-week, office-based treadmill.
Instead, where we work and when we work is a function of personal circumstances and client demands. On occasions we find ourselves working long hours including nights and weekends to deliver quality results for our clients.
However during other weeks we might spend three days working from home, one day in the office and one day face-to-face with clients.
Flexibility and personal responsibility are the hallmarks of how we work. We find this approach helps us to:
- Attract and retain quality people
- Get the best from our people
- Reduce the economic, social and environmental impacts of living and working in a modern city.
How we recruit
Demand for our services has grown in recent times. We attribute this to increasing interest in sustainability plus referrals from happy clients.
We are open to, but not driven by, expanding our business. We believe growth should be motivated by adding value to our existing team members and clients rather than by short-term profits.
We are always looking for 'the right people' to join the Sustainable Consulting team - clear thinkers with aligned values and goals and the ability to perform under pressure. However really getting to know, and ultimately gaining full confidence in, a prospective team member can take many months.
For this reason new team members generally start working with us as a temporary employee or casual sub-contractor. The transition to permanent employment happens once our clients, other team members and the prospective new team member all feel confident about the change.
We look for opportunities to develop our staff by undertaking free work for non-government organisations and community groups.
If you are interested in joining the Sustainable Consulting team, we would like to speak with you early in our relationship.
Please call Craig Salt on 041 222 3031 during Perth office hours to arrange a convenient time for an initial discussion.
We generally cover the following topics during the first meeting:
- Your experience
- Your achievements
- Your qualifications
- What you are really good at
- What you most enjoy doing
- Your personal and professional goals
- Why you are interested in working with us
At the end of that discussion, we agree next steps.
